Job Description


The Training Manager is responsible for to executing local training and talent development objectives through established systems and processes.  This position is responsible for overall oversight, development and execution of the facilities training processes and programs. This position will also participate with other HR initiatives deemed by the HR Manager.    

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure all Team Members at the Escanaba Mill work safety and ensure the Safety-Do Rights are being adhered to. 
  • Conduct individual and team skills gap analysis.
  • This position reports into the Human Resources Manager.
  • Lead the training organization, while training leaders from each operational area.
  • Ensure the Verso training platform and systems are adhered to and implemented to include management of the Document Management System (DMS), On Job Training (OJT) and certification process, knowledge course process and other Verso training and development systems.
  • Provide consistency and standards for operational training and certification across the manufacturing environments.
  • Develop training leaders and organize around best in class for training and certification processes and programs.
  • Oversee and direct hourly Trainers performance and work improvements.
  • Develop and facilitate key performance indicators that reflect results, assist with scheduling and track training progress for the operations.
  • Manage and assist in the develop TCCs, MOCs, JSAs, procedures and other documents within the operations environment.
  • Assist in documentation and implementation of ODR process and other operator rounds.
  • Provide additional support and coaching for use of Manufacturing Excellence tools.
  • Drive the use of data and data analysis tools in the decision making process.  Improve the continuity and integrity of training data.
  • Champion salaried training and development for new engineers, best practice teams and mentorship programs.
  • Provides guidance and direction to supervisors/managers and requestors of training with respect to appropriate training opportunities and/or solutions.
  • Assist with preliminary performance analysis to identify if training is a viable solution to an organizational or performance issue.
  • Facilitates and coordinates training solutions using defined processes.
  • Drives compliance with Operator Skill & Knowledge Training.
  • Facilitates and manages Training Needs Assessment, Training Request Form, eCourse material, changes, updates, corrections & associated MOC, OJT Matrix material, changes, updates, corrections, and associated MOC.
  • Understands and engages in RCFA processes where training is identified as a cause or possible solution.
  • Understand Document Management System (DMS) and provide oversight to departments with respect to training documentation.
  • Sets milestones and moves training projects to completion.
  • Partake in local community outreach initiatives, per the HR Manager.

Job Requirements

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Organizational Development, Human Resources, or related field OR Associates Degree with a minimum of 5 years of related, progressive experience in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field or 10 years of manufacturing experience and ability to lead the training function.

Minimum Required Skills:

  • Strong planning and project management skills and the ability to apply these skills in working partnerships across organizational lines.
  • Aptitude to effectively lead a department while managing direct reports.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, manage multiple tasks and projects and function effectively as a self-directed leader.
  • Ability to guide and influence outside of organizational lines.

Preferred Skills:

  • Working knowledge of training systems and platforms.
  • Ability to perform and interpret training needs analysis and facilitate/coordinate corrective actions.
