Overview of the Job:

Assists the Dispatcher in the safe and efficient operation of all Hydro Plant and Substation equipment. Interfaces CWPCO Line Crew and Electricians as well as Utility groups such as Wisconsin Public Services Systems Operating and American Transmission Company Operation Center for the purposes of switching, lockouts and power outages.


Duties of the Job:

-  Trains with Dispatcher to operate the Company’s Hydro Generation equipment in a safe, efficient and regulatory compliant manner.
-  Works with Dispatcher to monitor and operate the Company’s sixteen substations and sixty miles of transmission lines.
-  Assists Dispatcher with closing breakers and restarting equipment during outages.
-  Routinely inspects CWPCo Hydro Generation Facilities and stays current with equipment upgrades and operating changes.
-  Inspects and monitors fire and security systems at Energy Services building.
-  Assists Dispatcher and Power Engineer with operation and troubleshooting of computer system including hardware and software.
-  Assists Dispatcher and trains on the regulation of the Wisconsin River flow during normal and flood stages.
-  Communicates changes in river operations with downstream dam owners.
-  Assists Dispatcher with SCADA system equipment lockouts. Must communicate effectively with all Maintenance and contractors for safe lockout of equipment.
-  Participates in training programs necessary to safely perform required work.
-  Trains with Dispatcher on daily reports such as River flows, power purchases, Precipitation reports, equipment out of service, etc.
-  Expected to respond to call-ins and work overtime as needed.

Performs Ground Crew Duties when not needed as Relief Operator.

Other Duties as assigned by Management.

This position has a line of Progression.


The successful bidder must progress as vacancies occur in the line.

Job Qualifications:

Associate degree in Electrical Power Engineering, Electromechanical Technology or related Hydro Generation training and operating experience.


Valid Wisconsin driver’s license with good driving record.

Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED (as it becomes applicable), or ability to obtain certification.

Experience with personal computers and various software applications.

Job Requirements

On‑the‑Job Requirements:

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to perform physical labor including field work such as manual gate operation, onsite Hydro Plant
Operation, etc.
Ability to be self-motivated and work without direct supervision.
Ability to support teamwork among other employees; ability to work in a cooperative manner. Must coordinate equipment repairs with Electrical, Line and Millwright supervisors as well as Resources and Operations managers.
Must be willing to work shiftwork with 12 hour shifts being standard. 
Ability to recognize unsafe conditions or conditions outside of job scope and request assistance.
Must be familiar with FERC Emergency Action Plans for all Hydro Projects.
Ability to read maps/follow roads and find customer locations in the field.
Communication skills to effectively relate to Customers, Utilities, Maintenance and Operations groups.
Ability to learn and adapt to a changing work environment and changes that occur in the position.
Must respond to call-ins and live within a reasonable distance from Energy Services building.
Must carry a cell phone, radio and safety equipment as needed.
Must be proficient at recordkeeping (river flows, Megawatts, etc.)
CAD experience preferred.
