Job Description

Scope:  The Safety Engineer will provide leadership and technical expertise to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all Quinnesec Mill employees, contractors, and vendors.  Responsible for working with operations, maintenance, and leadership to develop initiatives and programs promoting safe work practices and improvements.  Ensure the mill is in full compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a proactive approach to injury prevention by providing safety leadership and expertise in technical decisions, work practices, and in ensuring compliance with corporate standards and state/federal law.
  • Develop, communicate and audit occupational safety policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate required safety and health training for all employees, including emergency response teams.
  • Ensure that mandated safety training is occurring and properly documented.
  • Develop, implement, and coordinate mill’s emergency response plans.
  • Participate in mill departmental safety audits and meetings.
  • Participate in Near Miss and Injury Investigations.

Job Requirements

Minimum Required Skills: 

  • Strong communications, interpersonal and organizational skills as well as demonstrated abilities to champion change and influence others at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to give encouragement, guidance and direction to improve safety performance.
  • Self-starter able to work effectively with minimal direct supervision.
  • Maintain knowledge of corporate, state, and federal safety rules and regulations.
  • Physical stamina and agility to conduct on-site inspections of the facility and equipment.

 

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, safety engineering, industrial hygiene or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in safety, state and federal safety and health regulations; industrial environment is preferred.
  • Special consideration will be given to individuals with a master’s of safety degree and/or CSP or CIH certification.
  • Knowledge and experience in industrial hygiene, ergonomics and industrial or manufacturing is a plus.
