Job Description

Purpose:

Manage and improve mill quality systems, including lab testers and testing, supplies, equipment maintenance, sample archives, standards & tolerances (S&T’s) and certificates of analysis (COA’s). Provide support to corporate groups as well as support for SAP, Proficy and customer complaints.

Accountabilities:

  • Assure clear, well defined quality processes and procedures are in place along with a robust system to utilize, audit and improve them.
  • Maintain the Proficy specification database.
  • Assure quality testing results and reports are timely and accurate to meet needs of internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate on proper disposition of product leaving the mill.
  • Manage the day to day and strategic needs of the Quality Assurance and Technical Labs, including training, scheduling, performance management and safety performance.
  • Assure all department personnel understand and adhere to mill policies and procedures for safety, quality, cost containment, etc.
  • Coordinates complaint process, including receiving and logging evidence, performing or coordinating data analysis and preparing Corrective Action Reports.
  • Support requests from Process Engineers, corporate product/sales/marketing groups, Customer Technical Services and others as required.
  • Provide COA, SAP, & Proficy support as needed.
  • Provide seamless transfer of Product Performance services as retirements occur.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
  • Strong leadership aptitude and ability to drive change.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with mill personnel, corporate groups (quality/product development/sales/marketing) and customers.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Competency with standard Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SAP.
  • Familiarity with and ability to utilize PVR tools.
  • Ability to work beyond normal work schedule as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities as well as available for evening and weekend on-call duties.

 

 

 

 

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pulp & paper science, chemistry or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in mill technical/quality functions with significant exposure to market and product aspects.
