Job Description

This position is responsible for the implementation, operation, and support of server environments within a multi-location, continuous operation, manufacturing environment.  Accountability includes creating technical recommendations for the environment, driving common practices and standards across the corporation in support of the information technology strategic direction, and providing tier 2 and 3 support for Verso Data Centers and Mill locations.

  • Participate in the execution of daily IT support services including incident management and demand management
  • Assist and/or lead IT initiatives as appropriate, deliver on-time results, stay within budget, and meet the overall business requirements
  • Ensure projects are managed with the Verso Project Delivery Process (PDP).
  • Ensure adherence to the standard processes and systems at the manufacturing or business location
  • Provide input on IT strategies involving IT applications, infrastructure, and security
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed

Scope: Provide data that describes or measures the position’s scope and impact on the business.  Limit the data to those areas which the position influences or impacts in a measurable way, e.g., expense, budget, output measures, quantity, quality, headcount responsibility (direct and/or indirect)

  • Leverage actual software, application, and hardware experience, to consult with business and IT on the current and future technical capabilities. This would include a technical roadmap to meet future business objectives.
  • Ensure projects are managed with the Verso Project Delivery Process (PDP). This includes requirements gathering, work schedules, project communication, business justification, ongoing support planning, training and rollout plans, collaboration with impacted IT groups, and successful delivery of project benefits.  This may be for several projects at one time.
  • Monitor and communicate support issues and status. Look for innovative ways to reduce overall support costs to the business and ensure that issue resolution is communicated to the proper stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Manage the expectations of our IT and business partners. This will be accomplished by communicating the capabilities that exist today and/or the extent of changes that may be needed to accomplish a given solution.
  • Establish, implement, and support the servers in the manufacturing environment, including lifecycle management, demand forecasting and management, contract management and procurement, and collaboration with organizational stakeholders on IT server strategy and direction.
  • As part of the server support processes, identify and resolve issues that require deep troubleshooting into the server hardware, operating system, network, and security processes. Works independently to solve complex server/application support problems. Selects methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Performs root cause analysis on server/application issues. Retests corrections to ensure problems are resolved. 
  • Work with team in the creation of server images and conduct regular security patching processes. Work closely with the manufacturing support and infrastructure support organizations on the creation and execution of standard operating procedures.  Assist as required with the patching process, ensure schedule adherence of the deployment of patches, and conduct audits and patch review as appropriate.  Review vulnerability reports, research, recommend, and take corrective action as appropriate.
  • Maintain and execute backup procedures, including the recommendation on backup processes and establishment of standard backup procedures. Provide tier 2 & 3 support in a 24/7/365 environment for the servers, including on-call support for all major incidents, priority 1, and priority 2 issues.
  • Maintain documentation on standard operating procedures for server monitoring, support, maintenance, and patching. Implement best practices for the server environment.
  • Interface with Manufacturing Support and Infrastructure Maintenance and Support organizations to define and implement best practices in support of the server environment within the manufacturing facilities.

Even though Verso’s technical platform is stable, our tools for development, support, and end-user computing are being upgraded continually from the suppliers.  It is important for Verso to be able to keep up with the changing technology and business needs and plan for business-driven migrations in our software and hardware.

The internal environment, including interaction with others (both inside and outside the company) policies and practices:
Being able to function well in a quick-paced team environment is key.  We have to maintain Verso’s rules of conduct when dealing with our team, other departments, and outside partners at all times.

The technical skills for this position are diverse:

  • Knowledge of our technical environment and how that affects hardware and software are needed.
  • Ability to translate business needs into release planning of software and hardware.
  • Ability to learn and maintain big picture understanding of how our IT systems impact the business

Job Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Information Technology, Information Systems or equivalent years of experience
  • 5+ years of Information Technology experience
